Review for Monster Energy--M3

CAFFEINE CONTENT

160 mg

EASE IN ACQUISITION—2

You know, for being a Monster beverage, this is one great big freakin’ pain in the butt to find.  I finally had to have someone bring a bottle up from California so as to be able to review it—what does that tell you?

APPEARANCE/PRESENTATION—8

At first glance, Monster Energy—M3…raises some eyebrows.  It’s this dinky 5 oz. glass bottle, so small you can’t tell whether it’s trying to be a shot or an energy drink—though it explicitly states it’s not the former.  Anyway, once you get over the size factor, it is rather eye-catching.

TASTE—6

I’m not sure what to say with regards to the taste.  It tastes kind of like the original Monster, but…only just.  When I poured it out into the glass of ice, I got the predicted small amount of liquid, but with a positively enormous head of foam—thank you, nitrous technology.  In any case, I took a sip, and…it tastes mostly like flatness (all the carbonation went to creating that tower of foam), with some Monster, some artificial sweeteners, and a number of other aspects that I couldn’t quite place my finger on.  Not too disagreeable, but I do like being able to figure out all the nuances of what I’m drinking.

KICK (INTENSITY)—8

According to the bottle, this drink “packs a 16oz. punch into only 5 oz. of liquid.”  Seeing how I was not impressed with the original Monster’s kick, I wasn’t expecting much.  I wish I could have anticipated what I got—I would have saved this for a day of running/working around the house, rather than staying awake in meetings.  The kick consists mostly of jitters, and honestly, it can get rather uncomfortable.  If whatever you’re looking for an energy drink for requires you to stay awake while sitting still, I’d get something else—but if you’re going to be up and moving, this one’s okay.

KICK (DURATION)—8

M3 delivered a solid three and a half hours of energy before wearing off, with only some semblance of a crash.

THE DRINK OVERALL—7.33

Truth be told, I wasn’t terribly fond of this one.  It didn’t taste all that great, and frankly, I didn’t appreciate feeling so disproportionately jittery.  If you have 1) drank this straight from the bottle, and 2) drank this before moving around much, let me know your thoughts.  I’d be happy to hear how things went from that perspective.

KEYWORDS: Monster M3 energy drink review, nitrous technology, super concentrate, green bottle, low calorie

  1. Nail on the head; must be physically active, may endure shivering sweats if not. That in mind, no crash, much more kick than any other drink or shot, actually get a bit giddy momentarily.

  2. AGREED, if I drink before getting to work, before running around, I'll end up cursing my deodorant. Monster discontinued the hitman, which packed-in about another cup of coffee and niacin, I miss it, but the M3 about does the trick; giddy at work.

  4. just went to the store and my usual favorite, the "extra strength super dry nitrous" had been replaced with this. To my knowledge there are now 3 sizes with the same caffeine, and I have to say they had the mix right with the extra strength. Way more jittery, tastes much worse, and you have to have a bottle opener handy. I do appreciate the smaller amount of liquid, but the trade offs are not worth it.

  5. I too had a hard time finding it. I tried the monsterenergy.com product finder and it wouldn't locate it. I ended up calling the distributor (coca-cola) only to find out that I can't even yet it where I live. I took a vacation to Oregon about a month ago. Still no luck with the product finder. Called coca-cola again. I was told where to find it. Purchased 3 bottles in case it was worth it. I expected paying $5+ each and only spent about $2.25 per bottle.
I drink energy drinks (usually Monster) at least once a day, so the effect has diminished over the years. I had a similar feeling as everyone else. The buzz was nice and lasted around 3-4 hours. I was jittery, but ready to get out and do something. I was at a wedding and didn't have much chance for much physical activity. However, I look forward to pounding one before a hockey game!
As for the taste, it is just like the Über Monster and I enjoy that there is minimal carbonation.
Well worth getting one... If you can find 'em.

  6. Why would you ever pour this rare delicacy in a glass full of ice?! Flavor is 10/10 when enjoyed from a chilled glass bottle. The sweetness sort of creeps up on you seconds after each sip. Like nothing else. If you ever find this drink TRY IT.
