Review for Rip It--Lemoan'r

-->
It’s 7:00 A.M.  I’ve been up getting ready for the day for about an hour now.  I’ve got two hours to go over a section of organic chemistry I haven’t studied and take a quiz on it.  I need something to help me stay awake/focus, and I’m having a hankering for lemonade.  What do I reach for?

Well, typically a Monster Rehab—Lemonade, but in this case I think a Rockstar Recovery—Lemonade will do nicely.  Problem is, I don’t have one of those, and I don’t have time to run to the store and grab one.  Looks like it’s Rip It—Lemoan’r today.

CAFFEINE CONTENT

204 mg

EASE IN ACQUISITION—6

This is a Dollar Tree acquisition, and tends to shift in and out of stock.  Just stop by once a week and it’ll show up.

APPEARANCE/PRESENTATION—6.5

This might be a little brighter and more eye-catching than the other Rip It beverages, but it still has a lot of room for improvement.  The cheesy tribal sunburst background needs to go away and be replaced by something less dollar-store appropriate, and the name of this drink is ridiculous, especially when printed in three different messy fonts.

TASTE—6.5

I know I’m in the reviewer minority when I say this (reviewers like Avery and Big Red Boots seem to like them quite a bit), I really do hate Rip It drinks.  Not that they’re exceptionally bad, it’s just that they’re exceptionally boring.  The flavors all taste like they were brainstormed, selected, formulated, produced and shipped in the same five-minute time period, expending as little effort and creativity as humanly possible.

Lemoan’r might be an exception to that in that they might have taken ten minutes to do all that.  It’s not very good—the raspberry lemonade flavoring still tastes really fake and chemical-y and not refreshing at all—but it’s not so devastatingly ordinary as the others.  As an added bonus, it’s got less HFCS than most other non-diet Rip It drinks—though it’s still not healthy by any stretch of the imagination.

KICK (INTENSITY)—9

I have to say, this one did deliver a pretty nice boost.  Not five minutes had passed before I took a break from my studying to get Blind Guardian radio on Pandora going so my studying environment could feel appropriately…intense.  That done and out of the way, I was able to blast through the chapter with no problems—only to find out that I’d studied the wrong section.  I hate it when that happens.

KICK (DURATION)—9

Four hours passed before I felt myself start to crash.  By that time, however, I had time for a nice 45 minute nap, which refreshed me for the rest of the day.

THE DRINK OVERALL—8.17

In terms of really cheap energy, this is a decent drink.  However, it still pales in comparision with the Spider Energy line, which deliver a really substantial kick, are inexpensive AND taste fantastic.  Until this line becomes more widely available, however, this is a safe pick for the bargain energy hunter.

  1. Have you tried the Rip It Tribute? It's one of the best Rip It flavors I've tried so far. The only dollar store I found it at was Dollar General.

    1. Haven't yet, though I've heard good things about it. I've hated all but one of the Rip It drinks to date, but who knows? If 5 Hour Energy's new shots can make a fan out of me, I think I can give Rip It a chance to do the same. I'll check it out and post a review the second I get ahold of it.
